 Dance Wisconsin is a 501(c)3 performance company that provides multiple opportunities a year for dancers from all over Wisconsin to participate in full length ballets and other original choreographic pieces. Auditions for the core company were Thursday May 9, 2024, but core company additions are considered throughout the year and inquires are always welcome. All auditions take place at Dance Wisconsin’s home school, Monona Academy of Dance, 2605 South Stoughton, Road Madison, WI 53716.

JoJean Retrum, Artistic Director, and Elise Woloshin, Ballet Mistress, rehearse the company out of Monona Academy of Dance located at 2605 South Stoughton Road in Madison, WI. Many Monona Academy of Dance students will participate in Dance Wisconsin productions and be members of its core company, however, the Dance Wisconsin experience is open to dancers from all studios.

Dancers auditioning to be a part of a production (ex. the Nutcracker) must be enrolled in one ballet class per week at minimum and be 7 or older on or before 10-1-24. Dancers auditioning to be a part of the Dance Wisconsin Company must be taking a minimum of two ballet classes per week along with two additional genres, such as tap, jazz, lyrical, contemporary and/or hip hop, at the studio of their choosing. Please bring your current class schedule with you to company auditions. Dancers auditioning to be a Dance Wisconsin Company Member must be at least twelve years of age at the time of the audition or turning 12 by July 31, 2024. Adults are welcome and encouraged to audition for the company. Dance Wisconsin dancers are required to continue seeking summer education on their craft and must attend at least three weeks of a summer intensive. Working adult dancers must continue to attend multiple ballet classes over the summer. Dance Wisconsin helps guide all of their dancers to summer programs that fit their needs.

Dance Wisconsin holds a company class every Thursday evening from 6pm - 8pm. Additional rehearsals are held on Saturday afternoons from 1:30pm-3:30pm and some Sundays in the weeks leading up to a major performance. Dance Wisconsin actively participates in multiple community outreach performances including but not limited to: outdoor spaces, retirement communities, schools, libraries and more. Please note that if your current dance studio has a timing conflict please reach out and speak with us as it may be something we can work around.

Cost for participation in the core company includes company fees of approximately $1800 plus any costs associated in attending the regional festival of Regional Dance America’s MidStates. Nutcracker participation fees for dancers outside of the company is $375 per production plus $50 per additional family member. Participation fees for spring performances are generally $100-150. Multiple fund raising options are available. Dance Wisconsin hosts an annual golf outing to support the organization as well as seeking grant funds. Nutcracker 2024 and Coppelia 2025 Auditions will be Sunday September 8, 2024 beginning at 1:00 PM. Nutcracker performances will be Saturday December 21 and Sunday December 22, 2024 at the Wisconsin Union Theater, Shannon Hall. Coppelia performances will be Sunday, March 16, 2025 at the MyArts Center. Dance Wisconsin will be attending Regional Dance America’s MidStates Festival in Kansas City Kansas April 2025.

Dance Wisconsin productions are open to all dancers, from any dance studio, participating in at least one ballet class per week.
